Antigua's Peter Byers wins Montreal Impact's MVP
Posted by Admin on 2009/9/10 17:40:00 (7 reads)

On Wednesday September 9 2009, the Montreal Impact faced off against the Vancouver Whitecaps. At the end of the second half the score should have been Impact 1 Whitecaps 0; Byers first goal was called back in the 81st minute. Consequently, at the end of the second half, the scored was tied at zero and three minutes were added to the board, thus giving Byers another opportunity to score.

I spoke to Peter earlier in that day and he made it clear that he was going to score in the game. So when the fans began leaving the Saputo Stadium and post game announcements were being made, in Peters mind, he had not yet fulfilled his obligation to his fans. After all, for him the game was still in play. He said he was going to score, and that, he did!

With passion and dedication he landed the only point in the game (Impact 1 Whitecaps 0) and sealed the Impacts 5th place position in the playoffs. Furthermore he went on to receive the MVP of the game. When Peter Byers is called to the field, the fans know they will see action worthy of their ticket price; Peter continues to make Montreal and Antiguans proud.

As a fellow West Indian, I spend a lot of energy and time encouraging and supporting him. So much so that by now he should be engulfed in vanity, still he remains humble, dedicated to the fans and determined to be an asset to his team. Peter, keep your head up, maintain focus and stay as humble as you are.
